PBCC Eissey Campus Will Hold First Juried Photography/Digital Imagery Competition
Deadline for entries is May 1

Palm Beach Community College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus has issued a nationwide call for entries in its first juried Photography/Digital Imagery Competition. The competition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older who are legal residents of the United States. The theme of the show is open interpretation represented by traditional and digital photography as well as digitally created imagery. Awards are $1,000 for first place; $500 for second place, and third place is $250.

Entries must be submitted as high resolution JPEG or PDF files on CD. Image size should be no larger than 1200 x 1800 pixels (4” x 6” at 300 ppi). Entry fee is $10 per image; the deadline for entries is May 1. Accepted applicants will be notified by e-mail by July 30, and accepted works are to arrive at the gallery from Sept. 5 to the 15.

The opening reception and notification of winners is Oct. 7; the exhibition will run from Oct. 7 through Dec. 10. Proceeds from the show will be used to fund fine art scholarships at PBCC.

The contest judge will be Dr. Terry Barrett, professor of art education at Ohio State University. He is the author of several books on art and photography, including “Criticizing Photographs: An Introduction to Images” and “Criticizing Art: Understanding the Contemporary” and the editor of an anthology, “Lessons for Teaching Art Criticism.” Dr. Barrett has been a visiting scholar at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Ariz., and the Getty Educational Institute for the Arts in Los Angeles.
